LOGITECH WINGMAN GAMEPAD DRIVER

Unfortunately, what I had the largest problem with was actually the design of the pad altogether, something I’ve been annoyed by with most of the current crop of Logitech peripherals. Now that the Sidewinder is officially off of the shelves, and because Microsoft has yet to provide any good replacement for the do-it-all controller, it’s a perfect time for someone else to jump into the ring and pick up all those controller stragglers that have just purchased Tony Hawk 2 or Frogger 2 for the PC over Christmas, but just can’t find the right peripheral to play with. But a button’s a button nonetheless, and if you’re into creating custom macros for your games, it should serve you well. Tony Hawk 2, in my opinion, should be the biggest test of any PC gamepad, since it utilizes a large amount of buttons, and requires some pretty intense reaction times, not to mention the fact that it gives the button layout a good going over, since you’re switching hand positions so often in the course of a level. Wheels of Freedom had big problems with sensitivity, but Frogger 2, Tony Hawk 2, and Championship Surfer worked very well with the controller, with Frogger 2 needing no tweaking whatsoever. The D-pad and triggers worked like a dream, and the D-pad in particular was fairly precise for a PC gamepad, something I’ve always been irked by with most PC peripherals, and the button layout was a little cramped, but overall a precise experience. The new line of products sport some cool edges, colors and corner, but seem to forsake some other major issues in the process, such as hand position.

Two triggers feel nearly identical to the Sidewinder, and overall, it’s a familiar experience to your fingers to hold one in your hands. Those with larger hands may feel frustrated with famepad button layout and size of the pad, but compared to a lot of peripheral out there, the WingMan pad gives you gameppad experience without tapping your pocketbook. Installation is a breeze as well — pop in your WingMan software disk, install, and from then on, most Logitech joysticks will work perfectly on your system.

It makes it a nuisance to reach the outmost buttons, and combined with the closeness of the buttons in general, makes it harder to find the button you’re looking for without quickly peeking down at the pad. There’s a reason why the new Microsoft gamepads have opted to ditch the button altogether. If you’re a fan of “more is better” than you’ll be more than happy with WingMan’s choice to include a whopping 11 buttons on the pad, two more than the Sidewinder. qingman

Personally, I wish all controllers would work with 15 pin and USB, so the addition is an extra plus in my book.
